Show at Moulin Rouge
Interestingly, in 1963, the Frou-Frou program brought an incredible income to the cabaret. Since then, the names of all shows begin with the letter “F” – such a sign. Recently, in the “Moulin Rouge” you can see only one show – “Fairy.” The budget for this presentation is huge – $ 7 million. Hundreds of people worked on its creation – musicians, artists, artists, designers, directors. The show is always very colorful, bright, memorable. For example, in the show “The Extravaganza” you will see not only beautiful dancers in unusual costumes, but also jugglers, acrobats and even reptiles in the water.
The show involved about 100 artists. Famous Parisian designers made 1000 suits especially for staging. All of them are in the spirit of the classic cabaret – with rhinestones and feathers.
The whole program is divided into five stories. Plot they are not related. First, dancers perform in retro costumes, showing the story of the Moulin Rouge from the beginning of its discovery. Then begins the next scene about the pirate Sandohan, about how he was on the beach and fell in love with a priestess of one of the temples. To win the heart of his beloved, he is ready to give all the treasures. But the beauty is in no hurry to take them. After the second stage ends, acrobats, clowns, jugglers, Siamese twins and wild animals perform in front of the audience, that is, a real circus performance awaits you. In the fourth scene, the dancers will perform the legendary French cancan. At the end of the program, viewers will see “Chicago – show”: artists on roller skates will perform acrobatic performances, while respecting the style of the famous musical.
Another clarification: the dancers in the Moulin Rouge cabaret do not appear naked – everything is decent here.
Making a cabaret
The Moulin Rouge Cabaret was opened in October 1889 by Joseph Oller, the owner of the Paris-Olympia concert hall. The opening was timed to the beginning of the World Exhibition in Paris and the completion of the construction of the Eiffel Tower. In those years, the cancan was first performed on the cabaret scene. Then he was considered a very vulgar and challenging dance, because of this, a certain image of the Moulin Rouge was created. However, the audience found its own and soon enough: the neighborhood of the Monmartre Hill has always been popular with artists, poets and musicians. They then were regulars institutions.
In 1915, during the First World War, the institution closed and resumed work seven years later. In 1937, the cabaret show program has undergone significant changes: in addition to cancan, acrobatic numbers and magic tricks began to be shown there. In 1964, a huge aquarium with reptiles and fish had already appeared on the stage, while dancers were swimming there. It aroused the audience.
In the late 1990s, the financial position of the institution was very difficult, the Moulin Rouge was on the verge of closure. In the literal sense, a film directed by Baz Lurmann, released in 2001 on big screens, saved a cabaret. After this tape institution again became incredibly popular.
