France: leave to return

Even the French themselves, when they talk about France, often cannot resist epithets. And the main one is “belle”; “Ma belle France”, “My beautiful France” … It is really beautiful, this happy country is one of the largest in Western Europe, but by our standards it is quite small. And in this small space there is everything that a person needs for happiness. Severe (by local standards, of course), industrious north – and languid, pampered south; they are so unlike each other, as if they are separated not by hundreds, but by tens of thousands of kilometers. The seasons also change this country beyond recognition – the one who saw France in the winter simply does not recognize it in the summer. Still, summer is the best time of the year (may the fanatics of mountain skiing and other purely winter joys forgive me – they are still in the minority in this world, yet most of humanity has been dreaming about summer for a whole year). And here is one of the most beautiful countries in the world, and even in the best time of the year, that is, in the summer – you should definitely see it, because this is exactly what is called “it cannot be better”.

Of course, Paris is always gorgeous – in the rain, and under a gray dim sky, and under infrequent snow, and blown by a damp wind, it still remains Paris. The city that we all know from childhood; a city that we imagine long before we see it for the first time.

The first time in Paris is amazing. In a strange way, he turns out to be familiar and at the same time – completely different from what he had imagined. Recognizing him from a car window means not recognizing him at all; to see Paris for real, you have to walk on it.

To walk calmly and serenely, without wrapping up in extra clothes, not tormenting yourself with a bored umbrella, not caring with wet feet and a regular, but annoying rhinitis. And this means that the best time for Paris is also summer. Even if it’s hot – there is always a place in Paris where to hide from the heat: in the same Louvre it is quite cool, but if today it doesn’t draw upon culture, then what is what, and there is no shortage of cafes here. A glass of cold mint water, a glass of icy white wine – and the heat recedes, defeated …

However, it is already quite difficult to find a person who has never been able to get to Paris. Poor students have been saving money all year long, in the summer if only for a few days, even if by bus, but to get to Paris. Wealthy gentlemen fly to Paris for the weekend – a couple of days in George V, easy shopping on Faubourg Saint Honore or Le Marare quarter and home. But otherwise – for us, Paris has always been and remains something more than just a big and beautiful foreign city. The large and beautiful foreign cities in the world is full, and Paris is the only, unique, beloved and dreamed since childhood.

Yes, Paris is great. He is the biggest diamond of the French crown, but he is far from her only ornament. In fact, France is so studded with these diamonds that the eyes diverge, and I want to see everything, that is, to embrace the immensity. And this, unfortunately, is impossible.

Although the temptation is great. France is luring no worse than a real witch. It all starts with the fact that you rent a car to the famous Paris suburb – Versailles. You wander there for a certain time among the palaces, fountains and summer luxury of the park; and then you get out on the freeway – and it turns out that you are not far from Normandy! Agree: it’s somehow stupid to be close to a completely different province and not reach it – all the more so that we’re close to Giverny, the place where Monet lived and worked. Oh, and what a garden there, oh my God! If everyone around the house had such gardens – everyone would have become artists no worse than Monet! Flowers, flowers, flowers, such paints, such combinations, that is breathtaking …

And from Giverny – a little more than a hundred kilometers to Deauville, a resort town on the shores of the Atlantic. Being so close to the ocean – and not getting there? That is, do not swim, do not wander through the world famous (after the film “Man and Woman”), a wide, especially during low tide, sandy beach? Do not look at the beach houses, which are written the names of movie stars, at different times, who came to Deauville to the festival of American cinema? But in these houses literally everything changed, so it makes no sense to list the names: remember what star – and she, too, once visited here. Maybe she just bathed, and maybe at the same time she visited the famous Deauville hippodrome, where in the summer gambling people from all over the world come to the races.

In Deauville or its neighbor, the small town of Trouville, adjacent to it, one cannot help but stop then, in order to sit on the waterfront in a restaurant and not eat oysters and other numerous seafood. For those who love them, they never get bored – these various snails, shells, lobsters, lobsters, shrimps … And there is a great temptation not to leave the coast at all, as well as to travel all my life along the ocean. From Normandy to Brittany, on the way stopping in wonderful towns, of which the most wonderful is not even a city, but Saint-Michel mountain.
